Swimming hall
The swimming hall is more than just a pool. It is a place where you make your first tentative strokes and where, later in life, you can find relaxation and a gentle form of exercise. The swimming hall should be a pleasant environment for all ages, offering warmth and light even when it is cold and dark outside.
A meeting place throughout life
A swimming hall offers challenges when it comes to lighting, as large areas of water have to be illuminated evenly. At the same time it is important to ensure that maintenance can be carried out easily. It is also particularly important to create a glare-free light environment due to reflections from the water’s surface. For lighting over the pool, we recommend an asymmetrical solution where the luminaires are positioned 1–2 m to the side of the pool and where the illuminance amounts to between 200–300 lx at the water’s surface. As people spend a lot of time around the pool as well, we recommend positioning wallwashers along the walls to create pleasant ambient lighting.

Demanding environment
The swimming hall environment is warm and humid, with high levels of chlorine, which puts high demands on the luminaires’ corrosion protection. The luminaires need to be airtight and offer good protection against both water and dirt particles. In this type of environment we recommend luminaires with corrosivity class C4, as this creates optimal conditions for durable, low-maintenance lighting.
Standard for sports lighting
As in many other areas, there is a standard for lighting sports facilities. The standard SS-EN 12193:2018, Light and lighting - Sports lighting, defines the lighting requirements for different sports divided into multiple classes, where you can find light levels for school sports, training and competitions at all levels.
